Orange is the main brand used by France Telecom for its mobile and internet operations. The brand was originally created in 1994 by Hutchison Telecom's network, however it was then acquired by France Telecom in the year 2000. More recently in 2006, the company's Internet Service operations, previously called Wanadoo (Originally Freeserve), were also rebranded to Orange.

Orange has been called a number of names in it’s history as well as being owned by a number of companies. The original company was set up by a consortium but was quickly acquired in its totality by one of the consortium members BAE. The original licence to develop a mobile phone network was awarded in 1991.
